Training locations for combat operations included Colorado Springs, Colorado and Ft. Worth, Texas. We later flew bombing missions from Great Britain to Germany to destroy designated targets (e.g., oil fields, munitions factories, strategic railway yards) -- always a cold, white-knuckled ride through clouds of flak from ground antiaircraft fire. Many men and planes were lost.
